Sting: TNA Has Same Potential As WCW
When wrestling fans think of WCW, Sting is one of the first names on people's lips. A true home-grown success story, Sting was one of the promotion's premier stars, best known for battles against Ric Flair, (Hollywood) Hulk Hogan and the New World Order. Despite his success in both WCW and TNA, one question continually pops up in the minds of fans; namely why Sting has never worked for WWE, despite being linked numerous times with a stint in the company. It has been widely reported WWE have contacted Sting about a possible Wrestlemania program with The Undertaker at least once over the past five years.
Speaking during a recent radio interview to promote TNA's Impact Wrestling going on the road, "The Icon" revealed his reasons for turning down such advances and sticking with the smaller promotion, TNA.
"It's the same answer every time and that is the brand, just love the brand," Sting told Kiss FM. "It (TNA) reminded me of the old school WCW and actually launching Monday Nitro, and becoming the talk of the town and then talk of the whole wide world, and I saw the same potential here with this group of guys and everyone behind the scenes as well."
Having wrestled now for well over 25 years, Sting is a true veteran in the world of pro wrestling, and credits the response he receives from fans as one of the main reasons why he has been able to produce such a lengthy career.
"The crowd is always the ticket, always the key there. I have always had a relationship with the crowd for so many years and, man, any wrestler who denies that is lying to you. The crowd matters. It's also the guys and the group of people we have and trying to accomplish something, to get the name and brand out there."
