Who Will Face The Undertaker At Wrestlemania?

Ever since WWE announcers began using The Undertaker's win-loss record at the event as a means to put him over, the winning streak has become a selling point for the promotion's biggest show of the year, and an annual tradition almost as talked about as Wrestlemania itself.

Currently at 20-0 following his striking Hell In Cell victory over Triple H at Wrestlemania XXVIII, there has been an air of 'can you top this?' surrounding the streak and 'Taker's 'Mania matches over the past 5 years. After a cracking main event opposite Edge in 2008, The Undertaker would be pitted against former members of DX on four consecutive events. The pair of matches the legendary star had against another, Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania XXV and XXVI have already been passed into folklore, with yet another dynamite series opposite Triple H at subsequent supershows receiving similar treatment in the eyes of the fans. The question remains; how can WWE and The Undertaker himself top what has come before?

A combination of age and injury has forced doubt to creep in, causing many to question whether or not The Undertaker can actually perform to his own lofty standards come Wrestlemania XXIX. Longtime WWE announcer, Jim Ross told Twitter followers you could, “count on one hand" the remaining appearances at Wrestlemania that The Undertaker has. Not only that, but the streak has now become such that not just any opponent will do – with fans requiring higher-profile stars to realistically pose a threat.

Names such as Brock Lesnar and Vince McMahon himself have been thrown around, with many clamouring for a showdown between Lesnar and The Undertaker for years. Upon his return to pro wrestling the night after Wrestlemania XXVIII, it seemed a given the former UFC Heavyweight Champion would challenge the streak. Seemingly being taken for granted, it also seems inevitable CM Punk will lose the WWE Title to The Rock at the Royal Rumble in January. With The Rock then looking likely to clash with John Cena, CM Punk would be without a meaningful program for Wrestlemania, a void which could be filled by challenging The Undertaker.

Whomever his opponent come the Spring, WWE must be wishing 'Taker is healthy enough to perform. His star power, and that of the streak, add much needed credibility to Wrestlemania. At this point, Wrestlemania without The Undertaker is like Christmas without Santa Claus, as his matches over the past half decade have been the gift that keeps on giving.
