Rob Van Dam Talks Retirement

Remembered fondly for his exploits in the original ECW, Rob Van Dam brought such a unique style to the ring, grabbing a generation of fledgling wrestlers in the process and helping revolutionise mainstream North American wrestling. Memorable matches against the likes of Jerry Lynn and Jeff Hardy would follow for both ECW and WWE, as well as a run as WWE Champion, before the Battle Creek, Michigan native settled in TNA.

Having also held the TNA Heavyweight Title, and as the current X Division title holder, RVD is happy with his role within the company. Speaking recently to Ring Rust Radio, Van Dam laid out his current position, also commenting on which wrestler he'd like to share the ring with for his last match.

"Well, I'm having fun as the X Division champion right now. I do find myself wrestling a lot of the younger, newer guys; guys that I haven't been wrestling all over the world for many years. I do notice a big difference in the chemistry, but I accept my position. These guys modelled themselves after me and watched me stand out, and they wanted to stand out that way; that's what the X Division is about. Once I had someone else explain that to me besides me just assuming that's what it was, I really felt more obligated to take control.

I haven't given this question any thought (as to who I'd like to wrestle in my last match), but my initial reaction when you asked me was Sabu. I can't think of anyone else I'd rather wrestle than Sabu, and if I was in that predicament where it was my last match, Sabu would probably say the same thing."
