Matt Hardy: I'm Still Learning
Currently plying his trade for the Shane Douglas-led Extreme Reunion promotion and ROH, Matt Hardy (right, with Jeff Hardy and Michael Hayes) has been earning positive reviews for his in-ring work since departing TNA in 2011. At the stage of his career where younger wrestlers will turn to him for advice, Hardy has previously hinted at a re-united Hardy Boys tag-team in WWE, saying there was “a very strong possibility” of it happening in 2013.
Speaking during a recent interview, the elder Hardy sibling admitted he felt he was still learning the art of wrestling, even after such a lengthy career. Matt also shared the man who had made the biggest impact on his career. Making his debut on the independents as early as 1992, Hardy would go on to have a successful run in WWE, becoming a multi-time Tag-Team Champion and having runs with the United States and ECW title, amongst others.
“It is a tough transition (from tag to singles wrestling). I was lucky to have the opportunity to do the whole Matt Hardy Version One persona, and it really helped me get in touch with my personal strengths as a performer. Every day that goes by though, I got more on the pulse of who I really was as a character/persona. I still do now every time I wrestle. Honing in what works for you and makes you who you are is a never-ending process in my opinion”, Matt told ProWrestling.com.
“Michael Hayes taught me more about the psychology standpoint of this business than anyone else has. I credit Michael for helping me become the wrestler/worker/performer that I am today. Michael truly opened my eyes to how this art of professional wrestling works”.
