Nigel McGuinness Talks WWE

As modest about his in-ring retirement as he is about his successes in pro wrestling, the story of Nigel McGuinness and his career is best told by his critically-acclaimed documentary, 'The Last Of McGuinness'. An often sad tale, McGuinness is nonetheless happy to get on with his life, still working for Ring of Honor as an on-air authority figure.

Speaking during a recent interview, McGuinness addresses a portion of the film where WWE suggest he pay $5,000 to repair his destroyed biceps, shortly before he made the decision to join TNA in late-2009.

“Even if they had said, 'You know what? We're going to pay for your surgery, but we're going to take it out of your cheque, once you start making money'. Five grand, once you're on the road and making money with WWE is nothing. I don't know if they had the notion of, 'you've got to want it'. I know a lot of guys in developmental right now who are being told, 'How much do you want to be here? Are you willing to suffer for three years just to get the opportunity to go to WWE?'. I think that's fucking asinine”, McGuinness stated.

“How many great superstars of the last 20 years would have done that? Especially in this day and age when there's UFC/MMA and lots of other ways that 18-24 year old guys, who are athletes, can spend their time. Brock Lesnar would have never put up with that shit. Yes, he was down in developmental for a certain period of time, but he was making pretty decent money when he was doing it”.
