Jim Ross: Bruno Sammartino Would Still Be Huge Today

A long time coming in the eyes of most wrestling fans, Bruno Sammartino's induction into the 2013 WWE Hall of Fame can't come soon enough for many, who feel his inclusion will give the ceremony much more credibility.

As the longest reigning WWE (WWWF) World Champion of all time, Sammartino held the title for over a decade during two lengthy reigns between the 1960's and 70's. Obviously, the wrestling industry was remarkably different during those eras, but his achievements and overall importance to WWE cannot be under-stated.

Widely known to have been heavily critical of the modern pro wrestling industry, and the direction Vince McMahon decided to take in regards to showmanship and health standards, Sammartino had previously declined entrance into the Hall of Fame. Feeling that the issues he had have now been addressed, WWE will be delighted to induct him at Madison Square Garden.

Legendary commentator, Jim Ross recently spoke out on the question of whether or not Sammartino would have flourished in today's wrestling world.

"Would Bruno Sammartino have made it in today's wrestling business? Absolutely. Bruno had 'it.' 'It' cannot be taught or feigned. Bruno knew how to connect with the paying customers. He was believable. Just because Bruno never did a hurricanrana or a tope doesn't mean he would not have done well. It's all about talent and television and how the talents are perceived on TV. That means it takes a partnership between the two entities with the talent being the key component", Ross wrote.
