Jim Cornette Talks Kenny King
When talking the most outspoken characters in modern pro wrestling history, Jim Cornette tops the list. Enjoying his time as Executive Producer of Ring of Honor, Cornette also contributes a regular guest column to the pages of FSM, recently responding to criticism of the company by staff member, Michael Campbell.
Recently appearing as a guest on The Live Audio Wrestling radio show (www.liveaudiowrestling.com), Cornette spoke out on the situation with Kenny King. His contract having lapsed, King was given permission by the promotion to speak to other companies, with the agreement being that he wouldn't actually wrestle for them. Performing for TNA in early-July, King felt the wrath of his former employer, who felt the wrestler had reneged on a verbal agreement. The fact Kenny King was at that point an ROH Tag Team Champion (with Rhett Titus) was also a sticking point for Cornette and company.
“Kenny was a great part of Ring Of Honor for a long period of time. We thought we had an arrangement, a deal with him that would benefit both sides and allow both sides to do what they wanted, which didn’t come to fruition. One of the things that we were trying to protect Kenny from was, well, what if it doesn’t work out?”, Cornette said.
“As far as would he be welcome back, you never say never in professional wrestling. I don’t know if he wants to come back, because part of the issue to begin with was was he wanting to continue his Ring Of Honor or his wrestling career in general. He would have signed for a longer period of time than he did originally, but he told us when he was 30, he was thinking about whether or not he was going to continue wrestling. If things don’t work out with TNA, there’s the possibility that Kenny will decide to do other things”.
