The Rock Responds To CM Punk

It's no secret that The Rock will challenge CM Punk for the WWE Title at the Royal Rumble this coming January. WWE have been very open in laying out matches for the Hollywood star since his return, even going so far as to build for one year towards a showdown with John Cena at this past Wrestlemania. As for the outcome of the match at the Rumble, it appears The Rock will capture the belt, leading to a rematch with Cena at next year's 'Mania event. Adding hype to the upcoming bout, CM Punk took to Twitter to leave a message for The Rock.

"Dwayne says it doesn't matter who his opponent is for the Rumble. Funny, I say it doesn't matter who is in the new G.I. Joe, it'll still suck", Punk told followers.

Responding, The Rock hit back out at Punk for his remarks on his (Dwayne Johnson's) role in the new G.I Joe movie. In what is surely thinly-veiled promotion for the film, these comments are nonetheless a great way to let anticipation grow for the first time ever collision between the pair.

"@CMPunk I dig your sense of humor.. Saw GI Joe last week - bad ass. I beat Cobra like a drum.. like I'll beat you, Phillip. #Rumble2013", said The Rock in reply.

With the TLC PPV still to come before the Rumble, WWE may elect to book Punk strongly, grabbing a clean win over John Cena. This wouldn't hurt the overall drawing power of the latter, but would instead give fans more of a reason to order the January event. Regardless of how they decide to play it, at least the company aren't backed into a corner as they were with Ryback and the Hell In A Cell situation last month.
