WWE's twice-annual visit to the UK is considered a big deal on this side of the Atlantic, and the LG Arena in Birmingham was this time tasked with hosting events.
Raw begins with a six-man tag featuring Sin Cara, R-Truth and Rey Mysterio against Antonio Cesaro and The Prime Time Players, with Cesaro, Titus O'Neill and Mysterio putting in quality performances. Vickie Guerrero then furthers the AJ Lee/John Cena storyline. The crowd react to Cena in the normal UK way, but in contrast, the response to Daniel Bryan and Kane for the former's match against Cody Rhodes shows the popularity of their team. Kane and Damian Sandow become involved, and face off quickly in a singles match. Defying the positive voices, both bouts are short, and give the wrestlers little opportunity to showcase their talents.
Sheamus versus The Miz follows, and is given decent time to shine, although Kaitlyn and Layla against Eve Torres and Aksana is played out to much indifference. This bleeds into Kofi Kingston versus Alberto Del Rio, too, until Randy Orton shows up.
Wade Barrett awakens the masses in a quick match against Brodus Clay, and thankfully the main event of the show provides entertainment, as CM Punk teams with Dolph Ziggler to face John Cena and Ryback, ending a decidedly average show in interesting fashion.
Disc Two starts with Smackdown, and a fine Miz versus Kofi Kingston bout, followed by another choice encounter as Mysterio and Sin Cara face The Prime Time Players. William Regal receives an unusually subdued reaction before his hard-hitting tag contest with Sheamus against Big Show and Wade Barrett. The main event sees Randy Orton do battle with Alberto Del Rio in a Falls Count Anywhere match, which is another tough scrap that's aided by the stipulation.
Main Event and Superstars are included, but while Wade Barrett versus Sheamus is well worth watching, Justin Gabriel versus Tensai and Jimmy Uso versus Jinder Mahal fail to make any positive impression.
Surprisingly, the extras include two fantastic matches from days of yore: The Ultimate Warrior versus Randy Savage from SummerSlam 1992, and The Rock versus X-Pac from 1998's Capital Carnage.
It's always going to be difficult to recommend DVDs of shows that originally aired on TV, and it's even harder to do so when the events in question are merely average. Still, if you were in attendance, or have fond memories of this UK jaunt, you may find this release to your liking.
